If you have an accident whilst driving a van which causes damage to a person, or their property, you must ensure that you provide your details (and those of the van owners, if this is not you) to the involved parties. The provided details should include name, address and vehicle registration as a minimum.
In addition, the company, with whom you hold your insurance policy, should also be informed of the accident even if you are not planning to make a claim on your policy.
If you are intending to make a claim, ensure that the insurance company are told of the accident as soon as possible. Your details may be taken over the phone, or you may have to complete an accident report form. Make sure you know exactly what is expected of you, in order for the claim to be processed efficiently, if in doubt then ask your insurer.
If you have had an accident, your insurance company may want you to take the vehicle to one of their approved repair centres. It’s thus important that you don’t action any repairs yourself until you know the claim will be sanctioned and you have been informed which repair centre is the nearest.
