Following a spate of thefts from vehicles in Bristol, police have given advice as to measures people can take to combat this form of crime. While it is vital that you have van insurance to cover you in the event that you have items stolen from your vehicle, it is equally important that you take every possible step to prevent this from happening in the first place.
Inspector Bob Evely said:
“The extra patrols and attention we are giving this problem has already resulted in five arrests in the last two weeks but there are quick and easy steps which motorists can take to prevent their valuables being stolen. Always remember to lock your car, even if you are only leaving it for a few minutes and can still see it. It only takes a few seconds for someone to reach in and take something. Take personal items with you even if they are worthless – a thief might think it is hiding something more valuable. If you can’t take them with you, put them out of sight before you reach your destination.”
Evely went on to advise that people parked in well-lit areas wherever possible and used garages at their homes, where there was one.
